The journal
An editorial almanac of the Australian outback after sundown.
Edition XII · Autumn season — field notes from the Red Centre, Flinders, Pilbara and Channel Country.
Outback Nights is an independent journal devoted to the rare hospitality that unfolds in Australia's interior once the sun drops behind the spinifex. We profile the homesteads, lodges and small operators who treat an evening in the desert as a craft — from the placement of a single hurricane lamp to the way a long table is dressed beneath the Milky Way.
Our editors travel quietly across the Red Centre, the Flinders, the Pilbara and the Channel Country, returning with field notes on slow-fire dinners, observatory programmes, refined cellar lists and private casino-themed evenings hosted inside heritage woolsheds and contemporary desert pavilions.
We are not a booking platform and we accept no commissions. Every recommendation reflects an in-person visit, a conversation with the host and a careful read of how a place feels when the generator hums down and the wedge-tailed eagles settle for the night.
